Donkey: A Mystery Solved
We want to share a little gratitude for the fine team at the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine.
Our little 3-year-old Bengal named Donkey was in and out of our local veterinary offices for the better part of the year last year. He was vomiting multiple times a day, barely eating, and was lethargic for most of each day. After a great deal of testing and poking done to him, a veterinarian from a hospital here in Reno recommended we take him to the emergency clinic at the UC Davis veterinary hospital, immediately.
And so we did.
We made the drive from Reno to Davis a few times. The team at UC Davis ran additional tests, and we talked with the team about our boy Donkey during case meetings.
Then, the veterinary team at UC Davis found something. Donkey was over-producing antibodies for bartonella. We started Donkey on a three-week run of medication to help his condition.
After a few short days, Donkey made a major positive turn. His appetite improved. He started gaining back the 1.5 pounds he had lost over the last two months. His energy spiked to where a 3-year old Bengal’s energy should be. He was coming back into his old vocal, loveable and trouble-making self!
His latest bloodwork results came back within the normal range, which was the first time in nearly five months.
Donkey may still have a ways to go since his liver, pancreas, and spleen were in bad shape, but his road to recovery was made possible by the amazing team at UC Davis. There were nights that we were afraid to go to sleep for fear he would not be with us in the morning.
We will forever be grateful for making the decision to visit UC Davis. We feel that they saved his life and brought joy back into our hearts.
Respectfully,
Daniel and Christa…and Donkey ❤️
