Reaching Across the Causeway Award
School of Veterinary Medicine and School of Medicine
Together the Associate Dean of Research of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Vice Dean for Research of the School of Medicine, the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the UC Davis Clinical and Translational Science Center have come together to incentivize collaborative science by new research teams that seek bold ideas and open new areas of investigation between the schools. The program will provide one year of support for six multi-school (SOM/SVM) department teams to fund planning, preparation, and submission of team-based applications.

Key Campus Units
Corporate and Foundation Relations
Foundation and Corporate Engagement is a central service unit that works with all campus investigators, units, schools, and departments to prepare and submit foundation or corporate grant proposals, build strategy to engage with and outreach to foundations and corporations, and relationships management support. SVM Liaison: Beverly Parayno
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees the university’s animal care and use program and is responsible for reviewing all animal use protocols and amendments, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, inspecting animal facilities and laboratories, and overseeing training and educational programs. Contact: IACUC-Staff@ucdavis.edu
Institutional Review Board
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) Administration is responsible for oversight of all research involving human participants. Researchers use IRBNet to submit applications to the UC Davis IRB. Each application is evaluated by our intake team and then routed for review. Application will be assessed for review type (exempt, expedited, or full committee). IRB analysts and reviewers will use IRBNet’s Lock Feature to notify researchers of requests for revisions during the review process. Contact: hs-irbeducation@ucdavis.edu
Library Researcher Services Department
The Researcher Services department works closely with faculty, graduate students, and other researchers providing expert assistance with the discovery, evaluation, interpretation, and use of research literature, data, and other library resources. Services include including data discovery, data management, and data visualization. Learn more about data services offered here. Contact: researcherservices@ucdavis.edu
Limited Submissions Opportunities
Limited Submissions Office - A limited submission is a funding opportunity in which the sponsor imposes a limit on the number of applications/proposals that an institution can submit. When this happens, the Limited Submission Office promotes an internal deadline for either Expressions of Interest (EOIs) or preproposals–depending on the anticipated interest–then coordinates an internal competition to determine which project(s) will move forward to the sponsor. This process ensures that our institution only submits the allowable number of proposals to the sponsor. For questions about Limited Submissions, please contact limsubmissions@ucdavis.edu.
National and International Faculty Award Nominations
National and International Faculty Awards - Led by Gloria Hayes, is an office that collaborates with all UC Davis academic units in the development of national and international, non-grant faculty award nominations. Contact: ghayes@ucdavis.edu
Proposal Development Support
Proposal Development Services, formerly called Interdisciplinary Research Support, offers extensive services and resources to UC Davis researchers to assist in the development and submission of extramural funding proposals, including individual research grants, individual fellowships, larger center-scale and team grants, equipment grants, and institutional training grants. The unit provides early career research support, project management for large team grants, and a toolbox with templates, training opportunities, and resources to facilitate successful proposals. Contact: pds@ucdavis.edu
Sponsored Programs Office
Sponsored Programs (SPO) reviews and submits research proposals, negotiates and accepts awards on behalf of the UC Regents and drafts, negotiates and executes (outgoing) subawards for collaborative research. Per UC policy, all proposals for extramural funding must be submitted through SPO except for limited submission pre-proposals and pre-proposals that do not require a budget, institutional signature/approval, or acceptance of terms and conditions at the proposal stage. Contact: proposals@ucdavis.edu
Technology Transfer
The Technology Transfer Office enables the transformation of technology to commercial applications through a wide range of services including educational and outreach programs (both within and outside the university), filing patents, managing certain copyrights, as well as establishing licensing and commercialization agreements. Technology transfer is instrumental in fulfilling the university’s mission to provide public benefit through research and education. Contact: TechTransfer@ucdavis.edu
New Ventures and Startups
Venture Catalyst plays a pivotal role in transforming innovative research into practical applications by fostering the development of university-affiliated startups. Through strategic collaborations, comprehensive programs, and proactive outreach, we bridge the gap between groundbreaking discoveries and their real-world impact. Contact: venturecatalyst@ucdavis.edu
