Application Information for 2025-26 Residency Program

Instructions for programs NOT participating in VIRMP.

  1. Please review the program website of your desired position for service-specific instructions on how to apply. Programs recruiting outside of VIRMP may require supplemental materials in addition to those below, or have a different application process altogether.
  2. Please email your Curriculum Vitae (CV) along with a letter of intent, in which you describe your professional goals and what you expect from a residency, to the house officer program coordinator (vmthhouseofficerapplication@ucdavis.edu). Please list your name and the program you are applying for in your subject line.
  3. Arrange to have an official transcript of your professional (veterinary) coursework sent to the house officer program coordinator (vmthhouseofficerapplication@ucdavis.edu). (If from a foreign school, please provide an English translation).
  4. Please request letters of references from at least three, but not more than four people. At least two of the letters should come from clinical instructors or people who have worked with you in a clinical setting. Letters should be sent from the referee directly to the house officer program coordinator (vmthhouseofficerapplication@ucdavis.edu). Please note that we will not initiate requests for references.
  5. Foreign nationals should be eligible for a J-1 scholar visa, meaning at the time of application they must not be subject to holds, bars, or in-country rules. Canadian/Mexican citizens must be eligible for a J-1 or a TN visa. We will NOT pursue other visa categories. The offer of any house officer position may be withdrawn if written evidence of a visa is not provided by July 1, 2025. Please see the Information for Foreign Applicants page for more information.
