The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Mison has been named Associate Dean for Veterinary Medical Center Operations/Chief Veterinary Medical Officer (CVMO) of the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH), effective March 1, 2024. Dr. Mison, a board-certified surgeon, will also serve as a professor in the hospital’s Soft Tissue Surgery Service.
Dr. Jane Sykes, chief veterinary medical officer, will step down from her leadership role at the UC Davis veterinary hospital following the completion of her 5-year term. Under her leadership, set to expire June 30, the hospital reached new heights of success and continued to grow its reputation as one of the preeminent clinical facilities in the country. The School of Veterinary Medicine is currently conducting a search for her replacement.
Michael Lairmore, D.V.M., dean of the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine, has been appointed president of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC). Lairmore, a veterinarian and scientist who is a member of the prestigious National Academy of Medicine, will serve a one-year term through March, 2020.
AAVMC President Dr. Calvin Johnson, dean of the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, and President-Elect Dr. Michael Lairmore, dean of the University of California – Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, devoted a day in May to learning more about the people and programs at the AAVMC.
