North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE):
All veterinary licensure candidates must pass the NAVLE in order to be licensed to practice veterinary medicine by any licensing board in North America. As the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is an AVMA accredited veterinary school, UC Davis DVM students with an expected graduation date no later than 10 months from the last date of the applicable testing window are eligible to take the NAVLE. The NAVLE is a computer-based exam that is offered twice a year, November-December and April-May, at Prometric test center locations. More information about the application and approval process can be found at: https://www.icva.net/.
California Veterinary Medical Board Licensing:
UC Davis DVM students planning to practice in the state of California must pass the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) and achieve a passing grade in the law examination as part of the UCD DVM third-year course, VET430 Core Stream. More information about the licensing process for the State of California can be found at: http://www.vmb.ca.gov/applicants/index.shtml.
Notice Regarding Professional Licensure and Certification:
The UC Davis DVM program meets national and state licensure education requirements. Please note that admission into UC programs for professions that require licensure and certification does not guarantee that students will obtain a license or certificate. Licensure and certification requirements are set by agencies that are not controlled or affiliated with the University of California, and licensure and certification requirements can change at any time.
