CAHFS Faculty Honored Distinguished Awards for Protecting Food and Animal Health

Congratulations are due to Drs. Beate Crossley and Francisco Uzal who were recently honored with distinguished awards at the annual meeting of American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians (AAVLD) and the United States Animal Health Association (USAHA). Crossley and Uzal are both faculty members with the school’s California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS). 

Crossley received the USAHA APHIS Administrators Award. She is a virologist with a specialty focus in diagnostic virology and received her DVM (1994) at the Free University of Berlin. She later went on to receive her Ph.D./Dr. Med Vet in Veterinary Virology at the University of Wisconsin and the Free University of Berlin. She completed a MVPM (2001) at the University of California, Davis. 

Uzal received the AAVLD Distinguished Service Award. His specialty focus is in pathology of diseases of food animals, with special emphasis in infectious diseases. Uzal received his DVM (1982) at Buenos Aires University in Argentina. He went on the receive his FRVC Veterinary Pathology (1988) and his M.Sc. in Veterinary Pathology (1989) at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Uzul obtained is Ph.D. in Veterinary Pathology (1998) at the University of Queensland, Australia.

“These are wonderful advancements in our efforts to protect the food supply and contributions to animal health,” said Dean Michael Lairmore. “We congratulate these awardees on their wonderful accomplishments!”
