California Raptor Center at UC Davis Plans Fall Open House
The California Raptor Center at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will host its annual Open House from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 12. Admission and parking are both FREE to the public.
Many resident ambassador birds will be on the glove with volunteers ready to answer questions about raptors. Special presentations at 10 a.m. and noon will demonstrate fascinating facts and features of raptors. Cameras are welcome, but no flashes are allowed.
At noon, visitors over the age of 21 will have the opportunity to sample selections from Super Owl Brewery and Nashoba Wines.
In addition to seeing the birds, visitors can follow a self-guided tour route, visit the interactive museum, and shop for raptor-themed merchandise. The Open House is free, but tax-deductible donations will help provide care and feeding of resident raptors, underwrite education programs, provide medication and medical supplies for rehabilitation, and maintain the center.
The California Raptor Center is located at 1340 Equine Lane in Davis. From Interstate 80, take the UC Davis exit. Turn south on Old Davis Road, away from the main campus. Cross the railroad tracks and continue to the Putah Creek Bridge where there is a low-profile blue and gold California Raptor Center sign. Do not cross the bridge. Instead, turn left onto the paved levee road and follow it for one block until it dips down off the levee. Turn right into the raptor center’s parking lot.
