Companion Exotic Animal Resident Wins National Manuscript Award
Dr. Mariana Sosa-Higareda was recently awarded the 2023 House Officer Manuscript Award from the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV). Her publication, “High bioavailability, short half-life, and metabolism into hydromorphone-3-glucuronide following single intramuscular and intravenous administration of hydromorphone hydrochloride to great horned owls (Bubo virginianus),” was published in the American Journal of Veterinary Research in May 2023.
Dr. Sosa-Higareda completed her three-year residency with the Companion Exotic Animal Medicine & Surgery Service this past August.
Contributing authors on the publication were UC Davis veterinary faculty members Drs. David Guzman, Heather Knych, and Michelle Hawkins.
Selection for the AAV House Officer Manuscript Award is based on clinical relevance, scientific validity, contribution to avian medicine, utilization of a multi-discipline approach to problem-solving, and adherence to guideline requirements.
