A Gift from the Heart

The Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California

Visionary philanthropist Jan Hobbs has always loved animals and knows firsthand the power of the human-animal bond. Dedicated to improving the lives of animals, she is partnering with UC Davis to help pets receive the highest level of care through its Southern California veterinary medical center location.

Hobbs contributed a transformative gift to launch the creation of an expanded, enhanced center of veterinary specialty expertise and care in San Diego. The Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California will take UC Davis’ capacity to serve companion animals to even greater heights and extend its world-class veterinary care.

“Jan’s compassion for animals is extraordinary, and we are deeply grateful for her generosity,” said Dr. Mark Stetter, dean of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. “This is the beginning of a new era of care for UC Davis in Southern California—making a big difference for animals and the families who love them.”

Hobbs appreciates the joy that animals bring. Since animals have played such an important part of her life, she wanted to do something meaningful to benefit them.

“I’m so inspired by the #1 ranked UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and the great work they are doing around the world,” Hobbs said. “It is important to me to give back to my community in a way that will help pets like my cats Hamilton and Jitterbug for many years to come.”

Once completed the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California will be a hub of innovation and treatment for the Southern California community. The most rewarding moment for us as veterinarians is when we save an animal’s life.”

Hobbs was delighted to discover that Hamilton shares something else in common with the veterinary medical center. When meeting Dr. Joao Orvalho, a veterinary cardiologist who has worked at the current facility for 12 years, they exchanged photos of their cats. A small world, it turns out their cats are both Maine Coons and brothers. Hobbs and Orvalho also learned that they are neighbors living on the same block in Laguna Beach.

Hobbs is a partner and wealth advisor at SageMint Wealth and the former founder of Jan Hobbs Financial Group. With more than 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Hobbs has been recognized as one of Barron’s Top 100 Women Advisors in America.

“We are so thankful to Jan for making our new facility possible. It is exciting for us, but our beloved animals are the real beneficiaries,” said Dr. Brett Feder, the center’s chief veterinary medical officer. “Once completed the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California will be a hub of innovation and treatment for the Southern California community. The most rewarding moment for us as veterinarians is when we save an animal’s life.”
