A new venture between the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine and PetSmart Charities will equip veterinary students to pursue impactful careers in community veterinary medicine. The PetSmart Charities Veterinary Fellowship program provides financial support, mentorship, and professional development during veterinary school, and for up to four years following graduation for fellows who work in qualifying community medicine practices.

The UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine welcomed 155 students of the Class of 2030 in the annual White Coat ceremony on Friday, August 21.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 who received their degrees from the UC Davis Weill School of Veterinary Medicine in its 76th Commencement Ceremony held at the Mondavi Center on May 22nd. Among those graduating were 148 DVM students, 36 residents from the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and 18 candidates in the Master of Preventive Veterinary Medicine program.

The school will be participating in Picnic Day on Saturday, April 18 and Give Day (April 17–18) again this year.

Support for promising veterinarians in training has never been more important than today. The Westie Foundation of America, Inc. (WFA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the health and well-being of the West Highland White Terrier breed announced today the first scholarship award of The Westie Foundation of America/Thomas and Roxanne Austin Veterinary Scholarship program.

Graduate health professions students from socially disadvantaged groups are more likely to have had encountered adversity in their childhood. And according to a new study, that reality also could lead to personal struggles during their education and careers.

The longitudinal research examined the wellbeing of UC Davis students in three of its professional schools: medical, veterinary and nursing.

Since 2000, the UC Davis Big Bang! Business Competition has been supporting entrepreneurs as they develop their business ventures. It is open to teams with a founder or team lead affiliated with a college or university in California. The prizes are funded by corporate, university, nonprofit and various other sponsors.

Kaya Miller, a second-year UC Davis undergraduate, introduces her three 3-week-old foster kittens: Anna, Elsa and Merida. She explains that as a busy student, she and her roommate have taken on alternating shifts feeding and cleaning the kittens. “It’s a lot of dedication; we have to wake up every two hours, but it's so worth it,” she said.  

Miller is a volunteer foster within the Orphan Kitten Project, or OKP, a nonprofit, vet-student-run club that has rescued and rehabilitated neonatal kittens since 1988.
