Preventing the next pandemic begins before diseases emerge. This “pre-emergence” phase is the focus of a new center funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation and led by the University of California, Davis.

Endowed Chair in Accessible Veterinary Care Named at UC Davis

Dr. Emily McCobb, DVM, MS, DACVAA has been named the inaugural PetSmart Charities Endowed Chair in Accessible Veterinary Care at the University of California, Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. The role has been permanently funded by a $6 million grant, the single most sizeable grant in PetSmart Charities 30-year history.

Welcome Class of 2028!

The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine welcomed 150 students of the Class of 2028 in the annual White Coat ceremony. A record high 58% of the incoming class are first generation college students.

In Memoriam—Dan Ransom

Dan Ransom, a staff member celebrated for his selflessness and mentorship and who was described as a devoted father, died July 27. He was 48 years old.

UC Davis Welcomes New Class of House Officers

The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine welcomed 54 new house officers (fellows, interns, residents) into its advanced training programs this year. The School’s House Officer Program is the largest of its kind in the United States with 140 total house officers training in 47 specialty disciplines.
